Pounding the Pavement

Since being back in Canada, I've been looking for work. Well it's only been about three weeks of searching and I've even been on a couple of interviews. I turned those offers down, but that's neither here nor there.

The point is that a lot of my friends out there are going through the same times that I am right now. So let me just tell you all what I learned:
  1. Looking for a job is stressful. But most of the stress is self-imposed. Relax. Everything will work out.
  2. Enjoy the free time you have, because once you are working, you will miss it.
  3. Don't jump at the first job that comes your way. You are worth a lot more than what the other guy is telling you.
  4. Treat looking for a job as a job. That means you put in your time everyday. Sometimes just knowing that you've been doing something, gives you self-respect.
  5. Get outside. Take a walk. Exercise. Watch a movie. Treat yourself well. A positive attitude really makes all the difference.
The last thing I gotta say is never confuse "what you do" for "who you are". Whether you are working or not, doesn't decide your value as a person. We'll get through this sooner than later. That being said, feel free to lend me twenty bucks here and there ok? Thanks!

Good to know that your days of wisdom from Winnipeg are alive and kicking. Paraphrasing Mustapha of Disney's Lion King - Remember, you are more than what you have become. Never loose sight of this.
